I took a walk on the old quarry road as the sun sank an merged with it’s snow born twins reflection. The road, shrouded in twilight, was rutted and worn as it churned beneath my feet like a northeast gale churns the sea. I climbed up to the top of the ridge where two hawks wheeled about in a dazzling crimson sky full of clouds dotted with the dim light of distant stars and there I ascended into an epiphany of heaven. Across it’s crest to the meadow, the frost had capped the earth beneath tight in it’s unyielding grip. The cold nights air brought on it’s outstretched wings the sweet aroma of distant pine that entwined with the smoke of a wood fire from the sleeping town below as a fine perfume on the winter winds breast. I am lost in the moment, I feel small and insignificant before the splendor and elegance of the precious light dancing in the limbs of the naked trees. The sun reclines as the full luminous rays of moon bear down upon me. I have become more than I am as I am enveloped in it’s eloquent glow. Otherworldly and spirit like is my long shadow that falls behind me darkening the trail of my foot prints in the liquid blue snow. The day has ended, peace has fallen in this place as the sky is now a rich purple huge. The distant dwellings of man, with their lamp warmed windows, beckon me back from this beautiful dream. I must leave this place for a time but the image of it’s humble and natural grace will haunt me till I return. The epiphany is over but I have preserved the vision, captured it’s essence in a cage of gelatin and silver, to keep the embers of this Eden from fading in my minds eye till we see each other again.
